By any measure, she is a success. By any measure that is, except her own.
Ivy Livingstone has entrée into Washington DC’s political elite, lives in an exclusive neighborhood and sends her son to a sought-after private school. But her beautiful life is a gilded cage. She is independent, but alone. And unfortunately, very few men are confident enough to believe they are in Ivy’s league.
Eli Thomason has all the confidence in the world, except when it comes to his own judgment about women. And his attraction to Ivy Livingstone proves him right. She is everything he shouldn’t want a woman above his station and beyond his means. He overreached once before and still lives with the heartbreaking consequences, so why does he find it so difficult to leave Ivy alone?
And if their own baggage isn’t enough, Ivy and Eli have to contend with circumstances around them that seem to confirm their worst fear that the bond they’re beginning to build can’t possibly last.

Recently on her blog, the author described this book as "The Book Where Nothing Happens" (click here to see what she means: http://niaforrester.com/2015/09/20/th...). But this book is so much more! This was the book where a real woman meets a real man and they experience real things in a very real, but new relationship. We have Ivy who is a who has a successful career and is sort of a single mother, she then meets Eli who is a blue collar single father who is struggling financially to give his son all the things in life he never had. From the very beginning Eli was not only skeptical of the very idea of a real relationship with Ivy, he approached it expecting it to fail - whether he saw it that way or not. Ivy on the other head, made it very clear that she was his and she was all in, and I believe her assurance and confidence in the relationship is what scared Eli. Also, Eli was always caught up in the financial difference between them, it made him really uncomfortable. Now, I clutched my pearls and held on to them when Ms. Ivy laid it all out in the streets for Mr. Eli and told him:
Eli, it's time to man up or back off. All while making sure she DID NOT break eye contact with him.
The supporting cast of Jaden (Ivy's son), Gavin (Ivy's ex-husband and Jaden's father), Zion (Eli's son) and Stacy (Eli's ex-wife and Zion's "mother"). Now I mention these folks because (particularly the exes) have so much influence, albeit without their knowledge, of the possible failure and/or success of what is Ivy's and Eli's relationship. Some of these folks were like old scars, some new revelations, but they all were pivotal and worth getting to know.
Not one character felt out of place or unnecessary in this book, even down to the mothers and best friends.
I recently discovered this author and have not been disappointed in her. Her writing style is that in which you really feel connected and familiar with the characters and you hate to see them go when it's all over.
There were some grammatical errors throughout the book, and if these are fixed, I can totally see this being a five star story without a doubt.
Instead of it being a book where not much happens, it was a book where a man met a woman and they worked through some things to start a real relationship.

Ivy League edition by Nia Forrester Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Sometimes in choosing a book, I just want something sweet and simple.
Something uncomplicated and relatable. Something REAL........
Ivy's League delivers.
Ivy is a professional, well accomplished, single mom.
Eli is a single dad and a contractor by profession. Their story is a romance. It deals with their diverse lifestyle and how the issue of money is handled in their developing relationship.
I thoroughly enjoyed Ivy's League. The storyline was different and very much appreciated. So, Thank you Nia Forrester. I wish more romance novels were written about professional black women exploring relationships with blue collar workers. It sounds like a winner to me. 😉
I started off with a gut wrenching laugh when the female protagonist, Ivy Livingstone, landed on the ground with her very luscious hind parts exposed for the world to see in her black lace panties. Then I was propelled into the land of utter despair when our blue color male protagonist, Eli Thomason, was sitting in the office of his sons' elite school to arrange a payment schedule conducive to his pocket. Ivy worked up on the Hill in Washington, D.C.. As Chief of Staff to a Texas Congress person. Eli was the owner of his own contracting company.
Ms. Forrester did a superb job of bringing these two opposing socioeconomic individuals into a loving circumstance. I loved every minute spent reading this delectable romance. This author pulled me into romance Heaven before I got to chapter 2. Ms. Forrester can write her behind off and leaves no stone unturned to give you everything that she has in her arsenal bag of romance to bring you along with her, as she leads us into the heart of the sweetest love story I have been privy to read. This author spins such an entertaining narrative that transitions so seamlessly from laughter to near tears that you find yourself not even being aware of the emotional yoyo she is perpetuating against your emotional repertoire because of the smoothness of her astounding writing abilities. A lot of times when I read, I find my eyes jumping ahead of my mind. Not so with these read. I wanted to not miss a single word and dedicated every minute of my attention to immersing myself in this lovable storyline.
I just love that is a narrative that employs a realistic background that had such a feel good sense to it. Who doesn't love a story that has the man from the opposite side of the tracks capturing the heart of the woman he felt was way way out of his league?! Ivy was such a down to earth, girl next door type of gal that you really couldn't help falling in love with her too. Of course there always has to be subordinate characters that bring drama into the main relationship and Ms. Forrester does not disappoint in this area. The drama comes about by the two exes of our love dual. With this added ingredient we have an even greater read to delve into. There is absolutely nothing bad you can say about this storyline; everything about it made you glad to be reading it and constantly thanking the literary gods for writers like Ms. Nia Forrester. To add more to the positive superlatives concerning this spectacular read, I have to commend this author for matching her image of Ivy to the image portrayed on her book cover. Beautiful!
As I read more and more of this reader palette pleasing ebook, I discovered that Ms. Forrester is a woman of many talents; an outstanding one being her comedic gene. I laughed and laughed while reading the part where Ivy called Eli to lament on her X wanting to introduce his current love interest into their son's life; all while she was under the influence. Not to forgo mention of the hilarious episode with Jenna Tate concerning her past interaction with Eli. Oh yes! I would be negligent if I did not mention that this book is HOT HOT HOT! Girlfriend (Ms. Forrester) sho nuff knows her way around a bedroom, on the steps, etc., and enjoys telling the tale so very well! What can I say? I just love love this author and the story she penned. I highly recommend this story to be added to your must read again pile, you surely will not be able to resist enjoying this book more then once. I have added the name of Nia Forrester to my Rolodex of favorite authors and looking forward to reading more of her works in the future; already searching for books amongst her older writings.
Ivy's League was a love story but more. Ivy is successful and upwardly mobile with a son, whereas Eli is a hardworking brother also raising a son but nowhere in his mind or in actuality the same economic category as Ivy. The thing is none of that matters to her, but matters greatly to him. After a tentative start the two grow in desire and feelings and it was lovely to read the evolution. But Eli continues to struggle with history and his perception of what Ivy 'should' be about.
The story is familiar yet fresh and Ms. Forrester gives it a nice cadence that flows. I enjoyed the evolution of the characters even the bumps... I also enjoyed that it read like life... I highly recommend Ivy's League for great storytelling and a book that reads like looking in a friend's window.
